Explores the potential for nurse practitioners (NP) in NZ to visit people diagnosed with chronic condiitons at home. Evaluates whether home-visiting NPs could provide primary care in place of GPs. Conducts a review of research comprising three themes: reduced barriers to care, improved health outcomes, and role clarity for NPs. |

High stress and staff turnover in a multi-specialty paediatric area prompted this study that aimed to :1) measure the burnout level of nurses in a multi-specialty paediatric area2) identify and validate causes of stress3) identify new ways of preventing stress on the wardFifty four percent (n=14) of the paediatric nurses completed the questionnaire booklet that included demographic data, the Maslach Burnout Inventory, the Nursing Situations Questionnaire the Hopkins Symptom Checklist-21 the Ways of Coping Checklist and open ended questions about sources of stress and satisfaction at work. Results indicated levelsof burnout and distress comparable with larger studies. Conflict with doctors was the major source of stress followed by workload, inadequate preparation in dealing with the emotional needs of patients and their families and death and dying. Conflict with doctors has not previously been identified as the major source of stress. However workload and death and dying are commonly identified as sources in the literature. Suggestions for further research and the low response rate are discussed |

| Abstract |
The researchers conducted a study to compare self-reported changes in both frequency and quality of performance of nursing behaviours in a cohort of recently graduated nurses undertaking a one year entry to practice programme. Thirty-three nurses were surveyed, seven weeks after beginning the programme and again seven months later, using a modified version of Schwirian's (1978) Six-Dimension Scale of Nursing Performance (6-DSNP). Over the study period participants reported significant increases in frequency of performance for the domains of leadership, critical care, teaching/collaboration, and planning/evaluation. Significant increases in the quality of nurse behaviours in the domains of critical care, planning/evaluation and interpersonal relations/communication were also reported. The modified Schwirian 6-DSNP was found to be a useful instrument for measuring nurses' self reporting of performance during periods of transition. |

This article explores the incorporation of western knowledge with kaupapa Maori in the delivery of health care. It presents a fictional kaupapa Maori service, as a tool to explore the change process and influence that organisational culture and leadership styles have on a process of integrating a kaupapa Maori nursing service. The importance of continual evaluation through quality assurance measures was also conveyed. |

Identifies the processes used in those general practices that consistently reach the Ministry of Health 95 per cent immunisation target for eight-month-old infants. Considers how the practices manage parents and caregivers who are reluctant to immunise. Invites practices in a number of different community settings to participate in the study over a ten-week period, using a mixed-method approach. Analyses quantitative data from the National Immunisation Register using Excel, gathering qualitative date from face-to-face or phone interviews, and anysing these using both SSPS and NVivo 10. |
