| Abstract |
Identifies the processes used in those general practices that consistently reach the Ministry of Health 95 per cent immunisation target for eight-month-old infants. Considers how the practices manage parents and caregivers who are reluctant to immunise. Invites practices in a number of different community settings to participate in the study over a ten-week period, using a mixed-method approach. Analyses quantitative data from the National Immunisation Register using Excel, gathering qualitative date from face-to-face or phone interviews, and anysing these using both SSPS and NVivo 10. |

A literature expedition through communication texts and journals led to an awareness of the paucity of literature which explores and acknowledges how we dialogue together, rather than the more fashionable focus on how we should communicate with others. |

The purpose of this phenomenological study was to describe the experience of five Registered Nurses involved in the withdrawal of nutrition and hydration in a persistant vegetative state (PVS) patient. Three female and two male nurses who had been involved in the care of a PVS patient within the last ten years were interviewed. The phenomenological design was used because it provided richness and clarity to the issues raised. Three major findings were identified as positive significant experiences for these nurses: support through 'talking': coping through 'thinking': and, decision making being kept 'in-house' (family and central care giving team)" |

Examines the lived experiences of adults with myasthenia gravis(MG). Uses an interpretive phenomenological approach applying the research methodology of van Manen (1990). Interviews seven people living with MG and records their experiences of the disease. Poses broadly-worded questions about various topics related to MG, that include diagnosis, symptoms, treatments and coping strategies, guided by individual experiences. Reveals by means of thematic analysis that MG affects every aspect of a person?s ?lifeworld?: their sense of time, body, and space and their relationships with others. Highlights three main themes embedded in the data experienced by a person with MG: living with uncertainty, living with weakness and living with change. |

| Abstract |
The objective of this paper is to outline a study firstly, assessing ICU nurses' ability in articulating respiratory physiology to provide rationale for their clinical decision-making and secondly, the barriers that limit the articulation of this knowledge. Using an evaluation methodology, multiple methods were employed to collect data from 27 ICU nurses who had completed an ICU education programme and were working in one of two tertiary ICUs in New Zealand. Quantitative analysis showed that nurses articulated a low to medium level of knowledge of respiratory physiology. Thematic analysis identified the barriers limiting this use of respiratory physiology as being inadequate coverage of concepts in some ICU programmes; limited discussion of concepts in clinical practice; lack of clinical support; lack of individual professional responsibility; nurses' high reliance on intuitive knowledge; lack of collaborative practice; availability of medical expertise; and the limitations of clinical guidelines and protocols. These issues need to be addressed if nurses' articulation of respiratory physiology to provide rationale for their clinical decision-making is to be improved. |

A paper presenting the findings of a small research project involving a group of self-selected senior nurses of Wellington Hospital to explore the nature of nursing practice in the care and management of hospitalised patients and to formalise the language that would acknowledge its significance in the current effort of hospitals to define patient care pathways. The nature of hospital nursing practice was described in themes of a generic process of nurse-patient care that articulates a distinct specialism of hospital nursing, whatever the hospital department in which nurses hold positions. |
