Explores the experiences of Filipino and Indian internationally-qualified nurses who have immigrated to NZ to work as registered nurses in aged care. Conducts a small-scale study in a large retirement facility in urban NZ using a qualitative approach comprising semi-structured interviews and one focus group. Discusses the physical, social and professional transitions the nurses made to work in aged care in this country. |

Asserting that little research into the novice-to-expert continuum has been applied to the development of novice educators, synthesises three teaching and learning models -- the Model of Practical Skill Performance; the 4A Model; and Five Minute Preceptor -- and three specific skills -- 'think aloud', questioning, and feedback -- which together comprise a 'toolkit' of skills-teaching to assist educators in planning learners' skills acquisition. |

Aims to develop a new empirical method for assessing the similarity of mental models in surgery, focusing on laparotomy; to begin the process of validation of the new approach; and to demonstrate how the new approach could be used in clinical practice. Develops a software application (Momento) to sort key tasks in order to capture the information on mental models regarding task sequence and responsibility. Asks 20 6-person operating room (OR) teams, each comprising 3 sub-teams consisting of anaesthesia, surgery and nursing, to complete Momento prior to 2 simulated emergency laparotomies. Suggests the Momento approach could be used to improve teamwork in OR. |

Describes the mixed-methods approach to the evaluation, including analysis of financial and service activity data, and qualitative feedback from consumers, referrers and staff. Identifies early-career nurses' perceptions of their first two years of clinical practice, and how the organisational climate at a District Health Board (DHB) within NZ impacts on their success in clinical practice. Determines the relationship between three aspects of organisational climate -- nursing relationships, charge-nurse manager leadership, and staff organisation -- and early-career nurses' perceptions of job satisfaction and burnout. Receives 91 responses to a mixed-method survey. Identifies significant themes that emerged from thematic analysis: supervisor support, emotional labour, workload and staffing relations. |
