Abstract: Explores the NZ context underpinning adequate specialist nurse workforce supply, contending that effective workforce planning would be supported by the
development of a single unified framework for specialist nursing practice in NZ, with the potential to support accurate data collection and to enable service providers to identify and plan transparent and transferable pathways for specialist nursing service provision and development. Argues that advanced practice nursing frameworks assist in increasing productivity through building an evidence base about advanced practice, enhancing consistency and equity of expertise, supporting a reduction in role duplication, and enabling succession planning and sustainability.

Conducts semi-structured interviews with primary healthcare nurses and GPs across seven resettlement locations. Proposes strategies to improve age-appropriate vaccination among refugee children after resettlement in NZ, based on five themes from the data: resettlement priorities; knowledge about refugees; learning to use the health system; communication between caregivers and health providers; culturally and linguistically appropriate services.

Surveys 15 patients from seven rural and urban general practices in NZ about aspects of the participants' relationships and engagements with nurses, analysing the results using Narrative Inquiry methodology.

Abstract: Aims to determine how a brief dietary assessment tool should be designed for use by practice nurses in New Zealand with the intention of providing individualised nutrition advice to reduce individuals' risk of cardiovascular disease (heart healthy eating counselling). Recruits 11 practice nurses from the Auckland region for interview and analyses data from the 2008/2009 NZ adult nutrition survey. Uses an action research approach as the underlying strategy of inquiry for the study.

Abstract: Identifies the processes used in those general practices that consistently reach the Ministry of Health 95 per cent immunisation target for eight-month-old infants. Considers how the practices manage parents and caregivers who are reluctant to immunise. Invites practices in a number of different community settings to participate in the study over a ten-week period, using a mixed-method approach. Analyses quantitative data from the National Immunisation Register using Excel, gathering qualitative date from face-to-face or phone interviews, and anysing these using both SSPS and NVivo 10.
