Abstract: Conducts focus group interviews with seven nursing students whose third-year clinical placements occurred in Managed Isolation and Quarantine Facilities (MIQF) during level 3 lockdown in 2020. Describes the experiences of the students in terms of clinical skills, communication, support, safety and NCNZ competencies.

Abstract: There has been considerable public debate on the range of complementary health practices throughout the western world, perhaps especially in Australia, United States and Europe. Most often, the research critique of these practices is restricted to quantitative or non-user qualitative research methodologies. Consequently, there is a significant gap in the research profile of complementary health services that need to be addressed particularly in view of the rapid and ongoing increase in the use of complementary services, even in the face of sometimes adverse media publicity. This paper demonstrates the contribution that phenomenologically-based research can make to fill this lacuna by explicating, in detail, the client experience of a complementary health practice. The paper explores patient experience of a ginger compress, as applied by anthroposophically trained nurses, to demonstrate various therapeutic effects. Four key themes emerged including an increase in warmth and internal activity in the major organs of the body, changes in thought-life and sensory perception along with a greater sense of well-being and self-focus with the perception of clearer personal boundaries. These themes, emerging from a patient sample in New Zealand, compared favourably to the Filderklinik Study completed in 1992 in a large German state hospital.

Investigates the validity of establishing a Parkinson's nurse specialist role. Examines the literature on the disease and its management, economic burden and risks. Describes the enhanced model of care in Sweden and the UK using Parkinson's nurse specialists.

Abstract: Identifies key factors senior perioperative nurses consider when making decisions about nurse staffing and skill mix in the operating room (OR). Uses a qualitative descriptive approach in undertaking semi-structured interviews with 7 senior nurses tasked with decision-making about OR staffing. Analyses the data using Braun and Clarke's thematic analysis process.

Abstract: Investigates the impact of workplace factors on burnout in NZ RNs. Conducts a cross-sectional survey among 480 RNs in which burnout, practice environment and negative acts in the workplace were self-reported by means of the Copenhagen Burnout Inventory (CBI), the Practice Environment Scale (PES), and the Negative Acts Questionnaire (NAQ).

Abstract: The author reviews the diagnosis, treatment, and management of intermittent claudation. She uses a case study to illustrate successful management of the condition.

Abstract: Extensive treatment requirements for patients in I.C.U. frequently result in interruption of their sleep. Sleep interruption can become sleep deprivation with physiological and psychological effects. To determine the amount of sleep patients in the I.C.U. received, a brief study was done in the form of a questionnaire to nursing staff. Noise levels in the I.C.U. were recorded over a period of time. From the study it was concluded the majority of patients were sleep deprived

Abstract: Investigates current responsibilities of nurses in advanced roles (NAR) in the Western Pacific. Uses a Delphi survey to identify key barriers and challenges for enhancing role development within the country and the region. Conducts semi-structured individual interviews with 55 national experts from clinical, academic and/or governmental backgrounds in 18 countries, to identify strategies for establishing nurses in advanced roles to improve equitable access to healthcare in the region.
