Abstract |
Conducts interviews with five adults, aged 85 or over, to discover how they expressed and negotiated independence and autonomy in their daily lives, and when in contact with the health-care system. Aims to provide health-care professionals with information regarding independence, autonomy and decision-making when caring for older adults. Groups the findings into three themes: independence, past and present; autonomy and decision-making; and health. Provides evidence of older adults living self-determined lives. |

Abstract |
Explores long-term care-home residents’ quality of life and their family's satisfaction with the care provided. Uses descriptive and correlational analyses, collecting secondary data from 39 residents of two long-term care facilities with a resident-directed care approach. Asks residents to complete a survey of quality-of-life and overall satisfaction measures, and asks 31 of their family members to complete a survey on care satisfaction provided by the facilities. Presents a number of practical considerations for nursing care staff to improve residents' quality of life and staff-family relationships. |

Examines nurses' attitudes to activities that promote career progression as well as training and education. Identifies demographic characteristics of nurses who are, respectively, most and least positive about career progression and training/education. Analyses existing data from the NZNO Employment Survey 2015, using quantitative methods to describe and compare responses with those from nurses registered with the Nursing Council of NZ. Investigates the relationship between nurses' attitudes about career progression and training/education and their experiences of participation in some of those activities. |

Describes the lived experience of health professionals ageing at work, and of the managers interacting with them.
