Abstract: Explores the experiences of 10 women post-operatively following mastectomy in an acute surgical ward in a large tertiary hospital in NZ by means of face-to-face, semi-structured, individual interviews. Identifies the women's expectations of care and service delivery from healthcare professionals, in order to inform the development of evidence-based interventions and models of care for the breast cancer care team. Suggests potential areas for future research.

Gathers and compares multiple perspectives and makes recommendations for practice that align with the goals of those involved in the project. Utilises a qualitative approach with the epistemological and methodological basis informed by interpretative phenomenological analysis. Collects data through semi-structured interviews with 10 patients, 6 family members, 5 surgeons and 6 nurses.

Conducts qualitative, semi-structured interviews with 12 patients whose responses are thematically analysed. Highlights the characteristics of care offered by Transitional Care nurses that describe the person-centred care patients received.

Examines the body of knowledge pertaining to clinical decision-making in nursing, suggesting that nursing prioritisation of the patient need for care is most readily discerned in the interpretive perspective and in the plain-language descriptions of nurse decision-making.

Undertakes an observational study of 100 consecutive older adult patients admitted to a tertiary NZ hospital with traumatic hip fracture between March and Sept 2012. Gathers data regarding cohort demographics and in-hospital events, including surgical details, alongside PFM and post-operative outcomes. Itemises characteristics of the patients, predominantly female with a mean age of 85.2 years. Finds no statistically significant relationship between pre-operative fluid management and post-operative outcomes.
