Abstract: Examines the experience of nurses who had been out of nursing for more than five years, and explores factors that influenced their leaving and return to practice. Invites nurses who had undertaken a Competency Assessment Programme at a given tertiary institution during 2005 to participate. Analyses and codes quantitative data for 32 nurses who completed the questionnaire, and identifies the three key issues that emerge.

Abstract: Conducts thematic analysis to identify two predominant gender scripts: of nursing as women's work, and that men who nurse are homosexual. Notes the associated themes of the effect of negative stereotyping on male nurses' career choice, and their resistance to the stereotype of normative masculinity. Considers that the same barriers to men becoming nurses have remained unchanged since first identified and discussed in the 1960s.

Abstract: Seeks to explore the issues surrounding the request for a kidney by end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients, in order to gain a better understanding of the decision-making process and motivations of patients as they choose or decline to approach others for a kidney. Interviews participants recruited from patients either on the deceased donor list (DDL) or who were pursuing Living Kidney Donation (LKD). Asks about the challenges of requesting a kidney donation and whether patients could identify strategies that might have been useful to them. Uses a qualitative descriptive approach to analyse interview data.

Abstract: Performs a retrospective audit of eight Diabetes Nurse-Led Clinics (DNLC) in two regions of DNLC provision in Auckland over a 12-month period from 2016-2017, at which 707 patients were booked for appointments. Undertakes a nested sampling of two randomly-selected DNLCs, in which 71 participants were invited to participate. Explores patients' perspectives of attendance or non-attendance at their booked appointments. Examines whether patients perceive any benefits of attendance at the clinics, and identifies factors that might improve their experiences with DNLCs.

Abstract: Surveys nurses at two hospitals during April and May of 2012. Uses bivariate correlations, group comparisons, analysis of variance and multiple regression to analyse the results. Notes that nurses were still experiencing negative emotional effects of the earthquakes and aftershocks of the preceding 18 months. Finds empathy levels and burnout levels were lower than the normative mean, and that empathy and burnout were negatively correlated with age and experience.
