Conducts semi-structured interviews with 9 male nurses resulting in two main themes: isolation during training; inaccurate public perception of the of the scope of the modern nurse. |

Performs an explanatory sequential mixed-methods study comprising a questionnaire followed by interviews, to understand the experiences and preparedness of nurse educators in working with Maori nursing students. Demonstrates that throughout NZ, nursing schools and the educational institutes in which they are situated are informed by a range of strategies aimed at supporting Maori learners. Finds from interviews that environments encompassing te ao Maori (the Maori world) and staff practises that aligned with this were enabling for Maori nursing students. |

Aims to identify the cognitive skills required of surgical nurses to rescue the deteriorating patient, and to elicit insight into the potential errors in decision-making inexperienced nurses commonly make in the same situation. Conducts three sequential in-depth interviews with six experienced surgical nurses to identify five cognitive demands required of nurses to ascertain deterioration and the cognitive skills necessary to respond to these cognitive demands: the task diagram interview, the knowledge audit interview and the simulation interview. |

Continues a prospective, longitudinal cohort study involving repeated yearly audits of ED staff reporting V&A during the same month each year. Employs an audit approach, focussing on the accuracy of routine reporting. Captures data from 2014-2020,including staff members' professional group, gender, category of V&A (e.g. verbal or physical abuse or threat, and physical or sexual assault), date and location of incident, and the individual who committed the violence. |

Uses three nurse focus groups to collect data about changes in pressure-injury prevention within their practice areas following implementation of a link-nurse programme. Talks to 22 nurses about increasing awareness of pressure injury prevention, use of assessment tools and documentation, and acquisition of injury prevention equipment. |
