Describes virtual clinics as planned contact by a nurse to a patient for the purposes of clinical consultation,advice and treatment planning. Examines nurse-led virtual clinic follow-up within chronic care services, particularly in relation to clinical utility and clinical outcomes. Identifies three themes from search of the literature: technical aspects of nurse-led virtual clinics, outcomes of nurse-led virtual clinics; the future application of nurse-led virtual clinics within the health industry. |

Examines nursing students' knowledge about services, their access to facilities and their confidence in referring sources of health promotion to other students. Offers a web-based survey to nursing students at 23 nursing schools providing undergraduate nursing education in NZ. Conducts descriptive statistical analysis and compares groups based on age, year of study and ethnicity, using 2-sample t-tests. Describes the responses regarding service availability, health-promoting aspects of each campus, and confidence in provision of health advice. |

Reviews existing research literature to examine health-care assistants'(HCA) and other paid caregivers' information-seeking behaviour. e.g. identifying a need for information; and seeking, avoiding or sharing information. Identifies four social contexts for the behaviour: home health-care, residential dementia care, nursing homes, and acute hospital environments. Garners this data to support registered nurses (RN) who delegate direct care to a growing body of unregistered health-care assistants. Highlights the influence that situational factors and social contexts have on information behaviours. |

Reports research that explores the experience of raising a child with severe allergies in NZ and the potential for an anaphylactic reaction. Utilises an auto-ethnographic research approach to provide details of managing the diagnosis and day to day life of a child with severe allergies through narratives written from the perspective of the child's mother who is also a nurse. Undertakes a thematic analysis of the auto-ethnographic narrative, producing four emergent themes: being the mother; being a nurse; who is supporting us?; and desperately seeking knowledge. |

Examines the mobility experiences and needs of morbidly-obese patients before and during hospital admission. Undertakes semi-structured interviews with seven morbidly obese patients. Identifies two categories of mobility problems: 'compromised pre-existing mobility', with a subcategory of 'accessing services prior to admission' and 'mobilisation difficulties during hospitalisation', with a subcategory of 'dissonance between dependency and need for assistance'. Recommends bariatric-care pathways for the morbidly-obese patient. |

Explores nurses' experiences of caring for patients who have had surgery for oral cavity cancer in one NZ hospital, involving wound care, tracheostomy management, oral care, ongoing patient education and the provision of emotional support to patients and families. Interviews three registered nurses about the challenges involved in caring for this patient group; their moral conflict over the effects of surgery on the patients; their professional uncertainty, and the emotional effort involved in nursing oral cavity cancer patients. Suggests the need for informal debriefing, grief counselling, clinical supervision, stress management training, and continuing education in this specialised role. |

Considers whether the Canterbury Dedicated Education Unit model of clinical teaching and learning can support graduate registered nurses in their first year of practice. Uses a descriptive exploratory case-study approach to gather data via three focus groups with a total of eleven participants. Undertakes thematic analysis to identify patterned meaning across the dataset from which two primary themes emerge: support, and recruitment and retention. Identifies five associated sub-themes: peer support, organisational support, liaison nurse support, team support for the graduate registered nurses, and team support for the staff. Reveals the significant contribution made by the Nurse Entry-to-Practice Programme Liaison Nurse as a conflict broker. |
