Employs human-centred design (HCD) methods to explore how the medical devices that make up the Waitemata District Health Board's (Waitemata DHB) Outpatient Intravenous Antibiotic (OPIVA) service could be redesigned to improve the experiences of patients within the service. Surveys patients and district nursing staff about improving the usability, aesthetics and ergonomics of the elastomeric infuser and redesigning the storage bag to be wearable under clothing. Proposes a new system to replace the surgical tape used to hold the IV lines in place and advocates for patient experience inclusion in the redesign of the devices. |

Proposes strategies to improve age-appropriate vaccination among refugee children after resettlement in NZ, based on five themes from the data: resettlement priorities; knowledge about refugees; learning to use the health system; communication between caregivers and health providers; culturally and linguistically appropriate services. |

Assesses the impact of environmental changes on patient reportable events (falls and aggression) in older persons' wards, using the Kings Fund Healing the Healthy Environment tool to make small changes to a ward environment in order to create a more 'dementia-friendly' setting. Conducts a comparative analysis of incidents in the wards. Obtains staff perspectives on the changes, which included large-face clocks, identifiction of bed spaces, lavender oil diffusion, and viewing gardens. |

Argues that the concept of cultural safety (CS) has been appropriated from an indigenous-led bicutural context to an inclusive cross-cultural framework for working with diverse patient populations. Investigates nurses' understanding of the 'Guidelines for Cultural Safety, the Treaty of Waitangi and Maori Health in Nursing Education and Practice' published in 2011 by the Nursing Council of NZ. Conducts a mixed-methods survey using both closed and open-ended questions to gauge nurses' confidence in applying the guidelines and their view of their relevance. Describes differences between NZ Registered Nurses (RN) and Internationally Qualified Nurses (IQN) in their understanding of CS. Argues that the CS model should be by Maori, for Maori. |

Performs both inception and retrospective cohort studies using the Australian and NZ ICU adult patient database before, and post-publication of the ICU-ROX trial results. |

Abstract |
Develops a daily measure of job satisfaction in the operating room (OR) setting in the form of a tool called the Morale-o-Meter. Trials and evaluates the tool between 2018-2019, inviting all OR staff to participate using the tool to measure their job satisfaction once each shift. Follows up the trial with an online feedback survey. Proves that overall job satisfaction is positively related to daily job satisfaction and affective commitment, and negatively related to emotional exhaustion. Suggests the Morale-o-Meter has the potential to increase the voice of OR nurses. |

Develops a consensus among indigenous nurse academics from Australia, Canada, NZ and the US on the three themes of nursing leadership, to redress colonial injustices, to contribute to models of care and to enhance the indigenous workforce. Highlights five indigenous strategies for influencing outcomes: nationhood and reconcilation as levers for change; nursing leadership; workforce strategies; culturally-safe practices and models of care; nurse activism. |
