Abstract: This report presents selected aspects of an inquiry based on a conversation with Raeleen, a graduate of a post-graduate nursing programme. Raeleen talks about her experience of critical thinking during her post-graduate studies. The authors suggest that, through this conversation, it is possible to explore the nature of critical thinking and examine the important roles teachers can play in facilitating its development. Abstract: Mobile computing is rapidly becoming a reality in New Zealand health care settings. Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) are the most frequently used of these mobile technologies, giving nurses access to clinical learning resources, including drug references, medical encyclopaedias and diagnostic information. The implementation of mobile computing at Waikato Institute of Technology (Wintec) will ensure graduates of our Bachelor of Nursing Programme are able to meet health care service demands for knowledge in contemporary information technologies as well as the information technology requirements defined by the Nursing Council of New Zealand and the Health Practitioners Competency Assurance Act 2003 for registration as a nurse in New Zealand. This paper presents strategies for the implementation of mobile computing as a core element of the curriculum for the Bachelor of Nursing Programme at Wintec in Hamilton.

Abstract: This book covers obstetrical care from a nursing perspective at the Dunedin Hospital's Maternity Units. The researcher found little information on the two lying-in (maternity) wards of the first two Dunedin Hospitals. The book presents historical records outlining obstetric nursing procedures and maternity culture at the Dunedin Hospitals, The Benevolent Institution, The Batchelor Maternity Hospital, and Queen Mary Hospital. It covers cultural, social and legislative changes over the period, and examines conditions and pay for nursing staff across this time. A chapter on the evolution of baby care looks at changes in acceptable practices around nursery care, breast and bottle feeding, and medical procedures. The book has an extensive list of appendices, including staff lists, training notes for staff, duty lists, and interviews with staff and patients.
