Explores the social construction of the evolving professional identity, of rural nurses between the 1990z and early 2000s, a period of time was associated with two
significant national directives impacting on the professional practice of rural nurses and their contribution to the delivery of health care, from the rural Otago region of NZ. Engages with the concepts of place and governmentality. Demonstrates that rural nursing is a place–based practice governed both from within and beyond location, an analytical diagrammatic matrix. |

Abstract |
Undertakes a qualitative, phenomenological study to explore the experiences of practitioners delivering asthma services to tamariki Maori and their whanau in primary healthcare. Employs a kaupapa Maori methodology in order to provide a Maori perspective to the research. Uses an equity framework in the analysis and interpretation of the results, to ensure alignment with Maori values and aspirations. Interviews 15 doctors and nurses from Maori, mainstream and Very-Low-Cost-Access providers of asthma services. Presents the results using the Pou Ora framework with four main themes: Hauora, Toi Ora, Whanau Ora, and Mauri Ora. |

Evaluates the SIP/PIP process to illuminate the views of the nurse managers and preceptors on the effectiveness of the SIP/PIP programme in ensuring competent practice and provides recommendations for improvement and strengthening of the framework. Uses a qualitative approach with data collected through individual semi-structured interviews with preceptors and nurse managers. Due to lack of participation in the quantitative arm a mixed-method study was not completed using an anonymous survey. Undertakes thematic data analysis utilising NVIVO 10 software. Draws four major themes from the qualitative data: (1) Feedback- insight loop, (2) Process clarity, (3) Relationships, commitment & reflective response to participation in the SIP/PIP process, (4) Barriers and enablers to the SIP/PIP process. |

Recruits 11 practice nurses from the Auckland region for interview and analyses data from the 2008/2009 NZ adult nutrition survey. Uses an action research approach as the underlying strategy of inquiry for the study. |

Surveys nurses at two hospitals during April and May of 2012. Uses bivariate correlations, group comparisons, analysis of variance and multiple regression to analyse the results. Notes that nurses were still experiencing negative emotional effects of the earthquakes and aftershocks of the preceding 18 months. Finds empathy levels and burnout levels were lower than the normative mean, and that empathy and burnout were negatively correlated with age and experience. |
